I recently spoke to the Milwaukee Community Journal and shared some of the fundamental reasons that families prefer to get aid from The Snack Sack compared to other organizations.
1. Personalized: We do not decide what supplies families will receive or make rules around what they can and cannot request. Instead, families can customize the snacks and other essentials they need and that their kids prefer. Often, their voices get blurred out by people who think they know what’s best for them. We believe it’s best to try to empower people as much as we can to take control of their own lives, even when it comes to snacks.
2. Private: It is critical that we protect the privacy of our families in a time when sadly, asking for help is seen as a weakness. No one should have to sacrifice their integrity to get help. Family identities are not shared with donors, and snacks arrive discreetly at their doorstep in the form of Amazon packages.
3. Peer-to-peer: Many in our community have been failed by large nonprofits that are disconnected from the people they serve. As a mutual aid group, The Snack Sack connects donors directly to families who need support now, using all donations to fulfill family-requested orders on a weekly basis. Instead of relying on nonprofit organizations that can take a long time to offer practical aid to people, we provide direct resources quickly.
